What is Psyllium Husk?
Harvest Naturals Psyllium Husk is grown in India and derived from the Plantago ovata species. Psyllium husk works well as a dietary fiber due to its high percentage of soluble fiber. Soluble fibers pass through the digestive system without completely being absorbed or broken down; this means the psyllium husk will act as a bulking compound, absorbing water and becoming more viscous. The bulking aspect is an attribute to the particular type of plant compound called paste found in the husk of Psyllium seed, making it the main reason it can turn from a powder to a viscous liquid when introduced to water. Psyllium husk is the main active ingredient found in products that help in relieving constipation. The bulk-forming aspects enable Psyllium to act as a laxative, increasing stool size and absorbing water for more readily available stool. Dietary fiber may also promote healthy intestinal bacteria and colon health. Recent studies also suggest it may help with more prolonged satiation when taken before a meal. Showing some promising correlation may help with weight loss.

Psyllium Husk Powder is excellent for baking of Keto & Low Carb foods such as different types of bread and desserts. By adding fiber to your recipes, you can cut out flour and replace the bulk with psyllium husk.

Potential Benefits of Psyllium Husk Include:

  • Promotes Digestive Health †
  • Supports Cholesterol Regulation †
  • Promotes Healthy Weight-loss †

How Does Psyllium Husk Work?
Psyllium operates by engaging with water and becoming more viscous and, in turn, making it a bulking agent. Its primary use is to aid in digestive health. As a bulk-forming laxative, psyllium husk will absorb the water in your intestines and allow for bowel movements to pass more easily. In addition to this, psyllium husk is also a pre-biotic which is essential for healthy colonies of pro-biotics to form. The healthy bacteria created by psyllium husk is integral in maintaining intestinal health. Doing so will allow for the reduction of inflammation, and will assist in fighting infections. In conjunction with supporting intestinal health, psyllium husk also aids in heart health. Studies have shown that ingesting soluble fibers, like psyllium husk, helps to regulate cholesterol levels. This support comes from Psyllium's ability to lower lipid levels as well as lower blood sugar, subsequently aiding in heart health. As a final benefit, psyllium husk may assist in the loss of weight. Because psyllium husk is a bulking compound, taking it with food may increase the sensation of fullness. This benefit may also assist in the reduction of cholesterol.
