What is Oyster Mushroom Extract?
Oyster Mushroom is a type of fungi that closely resembles that of oysters, both in shape and color. Oysters contain several substances believed to aid in health. Substances included in Oyster Mushrooms are beta-glucans, dietary fiber, and a variety of polysaccharides.
How Does Oyster Mushroom Extract Work:
Beta-glucans are responsible for immune-modulation. Immune modulation also is known as immunomodulation and is a process wherein the immune system undergoes modification to its response. This modification has been shown to stimulate the immune system while modulating humoral and cellular immunity. In addition to beta-glucans, polysaccharides also help to assist immune function. Polysaccharides make up the cell wall of mushrooms and are t-cell antigens and primarily responsible for humoral immunity. In addition, Oyster Mushrooms have been shown to reduce MDA levels in the liver, reduce the activation of SOD enzymes while also reducing liver damage scores.

How Harvest Naturals Oyster Extract is Made
Harvest Naturals Oyster extract is made from a dual extraction process. The first step of this process is hot-water-extraction. Hot-water-extraction is the most common and the least expensive and where many companies stop. When you find "cheap" mushroom supplements, they are either simple-dried powders or are water extracted only. The second step of the dual extraction process is the alcohol extraction.
Ethanol (or sometimes methanol) extraction isolates the water-insoluble components. The alcohol extraction process is, in general, used as a second step after hot-water extraction. Also, since alcohol alone will not break down chitin effectively, heat must be added. Without this second step of alcohol extraction, many of the additional beneficial ingredients cannot be extracted. Harvest Naturals only uses the fruiting body of the mushroom in its extracts.
