What is Lion's Mane Mushroom?
Lion's Mane Mushroom, or formally Hericium Erinaceus, is also known as Monkey Head, Bearded Tooth, Satyr's Beard, Bearded Hedgehog, Pom-Pom, or Bearded Tooth Fungus. Lion's Mane is both an edible and a medicinal mushroom that belongs to a group of fungi known as tooth fungus. Native to the continents North America, Europe, and Asia, Lion's Mane is identifiable by its long spines, which are greater than 1 cm in length, its appearance on hardwoods, and the tendency to grow a single clump of white or cream-colored free-hanging spines. Lion's Mane can be mistaken for other species of Hericium, all of which are edible. Hericium Erinaceus grows during the late summer in the wild on hardwood trees, specifically American Beech.

How Does Lion's Mane Work?
Lion's Mane contains two compounds, hericenones, and erinacines, that stimulate the growth of brain cells.[1] The increase in these brain cells contributes to nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Lion's Mane has been shown to possess antioxidant properties that help to keep oxidative damage low, while also increasing the activity of the intestinal immune system. Also, it boasts the ability to reduce inflammation potentially.

How Is Harvest Naturals Lion's Mane Extract Made?
Lion's Mane extract is made from a dual extraction process. The first step of this process is hot-water-extraction. Hot-water-extraction is the most common and the least expensive and where many companies stop. When you find "cheap" mushroom supplements, they are either simple-dried powders or are water extracted only. The second step of the dual extraction process is the alcohol extraction. Ethanol (or sometimes methanol) extraction isolates the water-insoluble components. The alcohol extraction process is, in general, used as a second step after hot-water extraction. Also, since alcohol alone will not break down chitin effectively, heat must be added. Without this second step of alcohol extraction, many of the additional beneficial ingredients cannot be extracted.

Recommended Dosage
The recommended dose is 500mg to 1000mg per day, which is 1 to 2 capsules. At this dose, a 120 count bottle will last you 60 to 120 days.

Best Lion's Mane and White Jelly I have found

Posted by Abby on 20th Jan 2020

There is sooo much written about mushrooms that is crap. Harvest Naturals is the first brand I have come across that does not hype it up to crazy expectations. I read the labels. research the company and then compare them to what the scientific community says. I like what I see with this brand.
