With over 2,000 different species of Astragalus, the two most commonly used species are Astragalus membranaceus and Astragalus mongholicus. Astragalus Root contains antioxidant properties that help to combat oxidative stress, inflammation, and damage from free radicals. In addition to its antioxidant effects, Astragalus Root may aid in the regulation of blood sugar. Some studies also show that Astragalus may even support kidney and liver function.
N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC):
For the human body to create the nonessential amino acid cysteine, it needs significant amounts of folate and vitamins B6 and B12. The nutrients mentioned above are found in both animal and plant-based foods such as beans, lentils, spinach, bananas, salmon, and tuna. NAC also plays a role in working alongside glutamine and glycine to help replenish glutathione, a vital amino acid that helps keep free radicals at bay. In conjunction with replenishing glutathione, NAC promotes brain health. NAC may also play a role in the body's detoxification process by assisting in the prevention of damage to the kidneys and liver.
The Mushroom Complex is a comprehensive blend of eleven different mushroom extracts designed to provide all the benefits associated with mushroom supplementation in one product. All mushroom extracts are USDA certified organic and contain a minimum of 30% beta-glucans.
Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) For centuries, cordyceps mushrooms have been implemented in eastern medicine, explicitly concerning Chinese medicine, for over 300 years. The fungus typically grows at an elevation of about fourteen-thousand feet and can be found in the Sikkim region of India. Healers in the Sikkim region use the mushroom to treat over 21 different ailments.
Lion's Mane (Hericium Erinaceus) Lion's Mane contains two compounds, hericenones, and erinacines, that stimulate the growth of brain cells. The increase in these brain cells contributes to nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Lion's Mane has been shown to possess antioxidant properties that help to keep oxidative damage low, while also increasing the activity of the intestinal immune system. Also, it boasts the ability to reduce inflammation potentially.
Maitake (Grifola frondosa) Maitake is rich in several vitamins such as copper, potassium, vitamins B and C, and beta-glucans. Copper is an essential vitamin because when it pairs up with the mineral iron, it creates red blood cells. Copper also keeps blood vessels, bones, and nerves healthy while also boosting immune function. Potassium, a mineral in the body, is critical for regulating fluids, muscle contractions, and nerve signals. Vitamin B helps to support well-being, cell metabolism, as well as brain function. Ascorbic acid or vitamin C, an antioxidant, helps protect the body from free radicals, as well as repairing all bodily tissues. Beta-glucans may provide the body with immune system support as well as lowering LDL levels or 'bad cholesterol.' Through the minerals and vitamins found in the Maitake Mushroom, there is an abundance of positive effects that it may afford to the body.
Red Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) The Reishi mushroom continues to be an active component in Eastern medicine. It has shown that it may be a viable candidate for boosting the immune system, promoting healthy blood pressure, as well as promoting general wellness. Red Reishi helps with immune system support through increasing the activity of white blood cells while the beta-glucans in the mushroom have been shown to aid in facilitating a healthy immune system. Due to Reishi being an adaptogen, it is used to relieve stress.
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) Chaga possesses antioxidant properties that afford it the ability to prevent the growth of dangerous cytokines and reduce inflammation while fighting off harmful bacteria and viruses. Chaga supports the stimulation of white blood cells through the promotion of healthy cytokines.
Poria (Wolfiporia Extensa) Wolfiporia Extensa is a fungus in the family Polyporaceae. The fungus digests moist wood, causing the onset of rot, specifically among pine trees. This wood-decay fungus has a subterranean growth that is noted by the coconut sized sclerotium. A sclerotium is compacted mycelium that contains food stores and is capable of withstanding extreme weather. Wolfporia has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for inducing urination, supporting spleen function concerning digestion, and calming the mind.
Turkey Tail (Trametes Versicolor) The Turkey Tail mushroom is filled with antioxidants, compounds that help prevent damage from free radicals and oxidative stress. Damage caused by free radicals and oxidative stress can lead to inflammation. Of the many antioxidants that Turkey Tail possesses, the most important are phenols and flavonoids. Phenols and flavonoids assist in the promotion of a healthy immune system by releasing protective compounds and reducing inflammation. In addition to containing antioxidants, Turkey Tail also provides polysaccharopeptides, which boosts the immune response through reducing inflammation, activating, and inhibiting specific immune cells. Beta-glucans are another immune-boosting compound found within Turkey Tail. These sugars, standard in all mushrooms, are the sought after ingredient for their medicinal qualities, helping to regulate blood sugar, lowering LDL cholesterol, and immune support.
White Jelly (Tremella fuciformis) Tremella fuciformis, like many of its mushroom relatives, is high in antioxidants. In studies, it has shown that the polysaccharides within it may promote antioxidant enzyme activity. An increase in this type of enzyme activity could prevent oxidative stress to cells caused by free radicals. Those same polysaccharides have also shown that they may help the fibroblasts in skin tissue resulting in better tissue integrity while also supporting wound healing. Furthermore, the mushroom has been shown to aid in reducing inflammation, which is conducive to supporting healthy heart function, reducing high cholesterol, inflammation within the intestinal tract. Tremella fuciformis is also high in Vitamin-D, a critical vitamin for both skin, bone, and brain health.
Willow Bracket (Phellinus igniarius) Willow Bracket mushroom is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine and possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, which may help to regulate and reduce the damage caused by oxidative stress and inflammation. The mushroom has also been used to help assist in liver protection. The antioxidant properties of the fungus are derived from polyphenol extracts. Polyphenols are nutrients that are found in many plants and have been used for their potential health benefits. In plants, polyphenols are used to protect plants from the sun and disease.
Wood Ear (Auricularia auricula) Wood Ear Mushrooms have a variety of benefits. Once used as a traditional form of medicine, they gained more popularity as research on them was conducted, showing that they possessed several health benefits. The fruiting body of the mushroom resembles that of an ear and is typically brown and grows on the Elder tree. They possess high quantities of nutrients and antioxidants that may assist in helping to support heart health, stopping free radicals via antioxidants, blocking bacterial growth, and they're even an excellent source of copper. A crucial and active component of mushroom extracts is a compound known as beta-glucan. The Wood Ear mushroom is high in beta-glucans in the form of pre-biotics. These pre-biotics lend to the creation of probiotics, which are essential for regular digestive health and may present a significant benefit for those that suffer from intestinal discomfort. In addition to supporting digestive health, the probiotics created via the pre-biotics, have also shown to help the immune system.
Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) Beta-glucans are responsible for immune-modulation. Immune modulation also is known as immunomodulation and is a process wherein the immune system undergoes modification to its response. This modification has been shown to stimulate the immune system while modulating humoral and cellular immunity. In addition to beta-glucans, polysaccharides also help to assist immune function. Polysaccharides make up the cell wall of mushrooms and are t-cell antigens and primarily responsible for humoral immunity. In addition, Oyster Mushrooms have been shown to reduce MDA levels in the liver, reduce the activation of SOD enzymes while also reducing liver damage scores.

Harvest Naturals Mushroom Extracts:
Harvest Naturals mushroom extracts are made from a dual extraction process. The first step of this process is hot-water-extraction. Hot-water-extraction is the most common and the least expensive and where many companies stop. When you find "cheap" mushroom supplements, they are either simple-dried powders or are water extracted only. The second step of the dual extraction process is the alcohol extraction. Ethanol (or sometimes methanol) extraction isolates the water-insoluble components. The alcohol extraction process is, in general, used as a second step after hot-water extraction. Also, since alcohol alone will not break down chitin effectively, heat must be added. Without this second step of alcohol extraction, many of the additional beneficial ingredients cannot be extracted. Harvest Naturals only uses the fruiting body of the mushroom in its extracts.
