What Is Glucosamine?
Harvest Naturals glucosamine is pure without fillers, additives, or additional ingredients. Athletes that have taken 3-grams of Glucosamine have shown a reduced rate of joint tissue degradation when taking part in high-impact sports like running. Glucosamine is a naturally occurring molecule in the body and an amino sugar that plays a vital role in synthesizing glycosylated proteins and lipids. Glycosylation is a process wherein glycans are attached through an enzymatic process. Primarily found in most body tissues, the largest concentration of Glucosamine is in the joints and cartilage of the body, where its purpose is to develop and maintain cartilage health. Glucosamine is one of the amplest monosaccharides. It is commercially manufactured through the hydrolysis of crustacean exoskeletons and fermentation of such grains as corn or wheat. Suggestions show that Glucosamine assists in the reduction of the collagen degradation rate.
Potential Benefits of Glucosamine May Include:
- Supports Joint Health
- Reduction of Inflammation
- Increased Range of Motion
How Does Glucosamine Work?
Manufactured by the human body and found in body tissue, Glucosamine creates a "cushion" that envelops and protects joints from deterioration and assists in creating articular cartilage and synovial fluid. However, in conditions such as osteoarthritis, this protective barrier becomes thinner and stiff, which can cause pain and become more easily damaged. Taking glucosamine hydrochloride as a supplement might help supply the materials needed to rebuild the buffer. Some researchers believe that glucosamine hydrochloride may not possess the same efficacy as glucosamine sulfate. However, it is thought that the "sulfate" portion of glucosamine sulfate is an essential factor because the body requires sulfate to produce cartilage.

I bought this for my 70 year-old mother. Her friends recommended glucosamine HCL as she has chronic foot and knee issues that affect her mobility. They recommended she hit a chain drugstore where they have a buy one bottle of pills get another free deal. I bought her 1/2 kilo of the powder for the same price as one bottle of the pills. She also has digestive issues and it is harder for the body to break down pills that it is to digest a powder. After 4-5 days she is obviously more mobile and upbeat. If 1/4 tsp is 1000mg and I just bought her 500g it should last a year and a half at 1g per day. I told her to try 1g before bed and another with a glass of water late morning. I am very satisfied with this product (and with the other 8 hard rhino powders I consume daily myself). If you know what you want to take, this is as fine a way to do it as I have found.
